Abstract
This paper shines a light on an important but often ignored piece of the corporate puzzle: how Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) fits into the bigger picture of corporate governance, especially as digital transformation speeds up. It digs into thirteen major hurdles companies bump into when trying to make SEO not just a tech afterthought, but a real, strategic part of their governance. Among the sticking points are fuzzy lines around who actually owns the SEO strategy, the need to get different teams working together, and a tricky balancing act between being open and keeping a competitive edge. The study calls for ethical governance that fights off shady SEO tactics, champions genuine content, and aligns what shareholders want with what stakeholders need to create lasting value. It stresses that businesses need to treat SEO like a long game investment, backed by solid, meaningful metrics that hold everyone accountable. Tackling complex regulations while shifting company culture also comes up as a must for successful SEO integration. The paper pushes for boards to boost their digital know-how and bring in digital pros to keep a sharp eye on things. In the end, it highlights the need for flexible governance frameworks powered by technology but balanced with good old human judgement and ongoing learning. When companies think of SEO as more than just a tool—making it a core part of governance—they’re better positioned to protect their reputation, fuel growth, and stay resilient in a digital world that never stands still.
